Iowa Talking Points — Taylor Wettach, Democratic Candidate, Auditor

Taylor Wettach and Jeff Stein at Iowa Talking Points Studio

Taylor Wettach is a seventh-generation Muscatine native who left the law firm Simpson Thacher & Bartlett over its pro bono work for the Trump administration before returning to Iowa to run for office. After initially exploring a run in Iowa's 1st Congressional District, Wettach shifted to the race for State Auditor, where he is campaigning as an independent watchdog for taxpayers. He has earned endorsements from former Iowa Governor and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and former Lieutenant Governor Rita Hart.

Wettach discussed his pledge to "follow the money, exposing the waste, fraud and abuse" in state government, and his opposition to a 2023 law that restricted the Auditor's access to state records — a fight he says has undermined the office's ability to do its job. He also laid out his plan to visit all 99 counties during the campaign. Taylor Wettach joined Jeff Stein at Iowa Talking Points Studio to discuss his vision for the Auditor's office.
