Iowa Talking Points — Ryan Peterman, Democratic Candidate, Iowa Secretary of State

Ryan Peterman is the Democratic nominee for Iowa Secretary of State, challenging four-term Republican incumbent Paul Pate. A native of Bettendorf, Peterman graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and served over a decade as a Navy helicopter pilot, leading sailors overseas before returning to the Naval Academy as an honor education officer. He also worked as a defense policy legislative fellow in the U.S. Senate. His campaign centers on making voting more accessible for eligible Iowans, protecting election security, and ensuring the Secretary of State's office operates with nonpartisan professionalism. Peterman has committed to visiting all 99 Iowa counties and has been critical of Iowa's decision to share voter registration data with the U.S. Department of Justice.
