Iowa Talking Points — John Norwood, Democratic Candidate, Treasurer

John Norwood is a West Des Moines business advisor and founder of TBL Ventures who has spent years coaching small businesses through Goldman Sachs' 10,000 Small Businesses Program. A Williams College graduate with a Yale MBA and Master of Environmental Management, Norwood previously served as a Polk County Soil and Water Conservation District commissioner and ran for Iowa Secretary of Agriculture in 2022. He is challenging Republican incumbent Roby Smith for State Treasurer.

Norwood centered his conversation on protecting IPERS, the public pension system that roughly 400,000 Iowans rely on, along with strengthening financial oversight and transparency in the Treasurer's office. He also discussed his plans to expand retirement savings access for Iowans and to modernize the office's operations, drawing a contrast with the incumbent's approach.
