Iowa Talking Points with Asa Hutchinson
Asa Hutchinson served two terms as Governor of Arkansas from 2015 to 2023, previously serving as a U.S. Congressman and head of the Drug Enforcement Administration. He ran for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination as a traditional conservative voice, focusing on border security, fiscal responsibility, and the rule of law. Hutchinson withdrew from the race in April 2024. He also served as U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas and was one of the House managers during the 1998 Clinton impeachment trial.
Former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson joined Jeff Stein and former Iowa state Representative Jon Jacobson at Mudd Studio 5 in Waterloo, Iowa for a one-hour conversation in front of a live studio audience. Hutchinson — one of the more experienced governors in the 2024 Republican presidential field — brought a traditional conservative perspective to topics including border security, federal spending, the rule of law, and what principled Republican leadership looks like in the post-Trump era. One of several 2024 presidential candidates to make the trip to Mudd Studio 5 during the crucial pre-caucus season.
