Iowa Talking Points — Hurricane Response, FEMA, Workforce & Labor Rights

October 10, 2024

Mark Mix

President, National Right to Work Committee

Mark Mix has served as President of the National Right to Work Committee since 1999, making him one of the longest-serving and most prominent advocates for worker freedom in America. The National Right to Work Committee is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the rights of American workers to choose whether or not to join a union. Mix is a frequent commentator on labor policy, union legislation, and worker freedom issues and has testified before Congress numerous times on right to work legislation.

Jeff Stein of KXEL AM/FM Radio and Gentry Collins of the American Free Enterprise Chamber of Commerce opened this episode of Iowa Talking Points with a timely political recap focused on Mother Nature's wrath and the government's response to Hurricanes Helene and Milton — two of the most destructive storms of the 2024 season. The hosts examined the controversy surrounding FEMA's initially stated funding shortfall before the agency reversed course and declared it had plenty of resources to handle the disaster response — a story that generated significant political debate in the weeks before the November election.

The conversation then shifted to workforce and labor issues with special guest Mark Mix — President of the National Right to Work Committee — one of America's leading voices on worker freedom and labor policy. Mix discussed the state of right to work legislation across the country, the role of unions in the 2024 election, and what a new administration could mean for American workers and employers. A wide-ranging episode covering two of the most pressing issues of October 2024 — natural disaster response and the future of American labor policy.
